Legends of Airpower Weekend
Join us this Memorial Day Weekend for the annual Legends of Airpower Weekend at the American Airpower Museum at Republic Airport at 1230 New Highway Farmingdale, NY. The Museum is just 45 minutes outside of NYC, and just 5 minutes from the Farmingdale Long Island Rail Road train stop. As in year’s past the event will be held in conjunction with the great Bethpage Federal Credit Union Jones Beach Air Show at the Jones Beach State Park. Held at historic Republic Airport once home to the legendary Thunder Factory of Republic Aviation the museum will celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the American volunteer group better known as the Flying Tigers, the Doolittle Tokyo Raid, and Battle of Midway. Aircraft will be on display and flying for the visiting public throughout the weekend. The museum’s legendary P-40 Warhawk, the B-25 Mitchel, TBM-3 Avenger, and the visiting Commemorative Air Force Dixie Wing’s SBD-5 Dauntless Dive Bomber will pay tribute to these historic anniversaries. Also on display for the weekend will be the entire museum collection of historic flying and static aircraft including the C-47, AT-28D, AT-6D, WACO UPF-7, F-84 collection, F-105D, and F-111A. Visiting us for the weekend will also be the Commemorative Air Force Dixie Wing’s P-51D Mustang, and the Yankee Air Museum’s B-17G “Yankee Lady”. You will also be able to watch most of the Jones Beach Air Show Air Operations with acts departing and returning to the airfield from the runways in viewing range of our hangar and flight line.
This weekend has an added attraction in that many of these historic aircraft will be available for flight experiences Friday through Monday at the museum. Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to take flight some of the legendary aircraft of World War II.
