Infinite Variety Productions, a NYC based, not-for-profit theatre company,
is partnering with the American Airpower Museum to bring IVP’s production of
“Censored on Final Approach” by Phylis Ravel to Farmingdale, NY for this special event.

pic“Censored on Final Approach” is the story of four WASP (Women Airforce Service Pilots): women hired by the United States Army Air Forces during WWII to fly military aircrafts and tow targets for live anti-aircraft artillery practice, thereby freeing male pilots for combat missions.

More than one thousand women flew for the WASP program, but their stories are rarely found in the history books. Infinite Variety Productions & the American Airpower Museum hope to change that.

We hope to bring a deeper layer of meaning to IVP’s acclaimed production by performing this piece in the AAM’s historic WWII hangar against a backdrop of vintage aircraft. With the ability to explore the museum’s exhibits, the WWII planes, interact with various authors and historians specializing in the WASP, and witness a play that comes straight out of the history books, IVP and the AAM promise this will be a night to remember for all attendees.

SHOW DATES : Friday, May 8th @ 8pm and Saturday, May 9th @ 8pm (Museum opens at 6pm)

LOCATION: American Airpower Museum, 1230 New Hwy, Farmingdale, NY 11735

The women in Ms. Ravel’s play are willing to accept any mission for their chance to serve their country, gain the respect of their male counterparts, and experience the thrill of flying. As one of the characters in the play puts it, “I guess that’s the difference…Most men are here because they have to be. We’re here because we want to be.”

“Censored on Final Approach” is a story of strength, courage, identity, and the close-knit friendships formed during a very important period in American history. These women flew a combined total of some 60 million miles in every type of military aircraft and paved the way for future generations of female pilots, both military and civilian. This play continues IVP’s tradition of producing works that underscore the pivotal but often overlooked roles women have played throughout history.

C-47 fall flight quarter page rev1 color

The Labor Day Weekend Salute to Airpower was an exciting fun filled weekend of Warbirds flying and on display at the American Airpower Museum. Visitors were able to see the famed “Republic Fighter display”, and take flight experience rides on the visiting Collings Foundation Wings of Freedom Tour B-24J, B-17G, and P-51C. In addition people enjoyed the museum’s C-47 D-Day Flight experience, AT-6D, and WACO UPF-7 rides as well. AAM aircraft were on display and flew as well. A special thanks to the Museum of American Armor for having their Wheeled armored vehicles on patrol all weekend as we had both an air and ground tribute to all our veterans!

Thanks to all those who visited and supported our museum this holiday weekend and a huge thank you to all our Volunteers for a outstanding job in entertaining the crowds and keeping everyone safe throughout the weekend. We look forward to our remaining events this fall and look forward to our upcoming events in 2015!
