HISTORY IN MOTION! This Labor Day Weekend visitors will be able to experience the history of the airplane, automobile and the firetruck and see how they evolved in the course of the 20th century. Vintage aircraft from the Bayport Aerodrome Society will demonstrate the ruggedness of the wood and fabric covered biplane.

Examples of some of Henry Fords finest vehicles will share the ramp with cars of other manufacturers from the 1920s through the 1960s.

Antique and vintage firetrucks from firehouses around Long Island show us just how far we have come in the art of fighting fires and protecting our communities. (Most Firetruck will be on display Saturday the 2nd only.)

The AAM fleet of aircraft will be on hand to complete the historical journey through the 1940s to the 1970s.

The Battle of Mogadishu – October 3-4 1993

On Saturday July 29th 2017, at 1:30 pm, the Babylon Junior Senior High School Class of ’77 and the American Airpower Museum honor the men of Task Force Ranger who took part in the battle of Mogadishu in October of 1993.

During the two days of battle, two American UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters were shot down in the center of the city. The operation to rescue the crews of both helicopters created an overnight standoff. The Battle concluded the next day, 4 October. In all, nineteen Americans died in the operation, seventy-three were wounded and one helicopter pilot was captured and subsequently released. The story of the battle was made famous by the 1993 movie, Black Hawk Down.

Representing Task Force Ranger will be Gerald Izzo, CWO4 (retired), BHS class of ’77, who was a Black Hawk pilot during the battle. He will relate his battle experiences to a crowd of invited veterans and public. Michelle Dellafave who entertained troops touring with the USO with Bob Hope and Dean Martin, will sing.

The community event, part of the BHS Class of 1977 “Pay It Forward” 40th Reunion Weekend, Black Hawk Down starts at 1:30 pm and is open to the public and free of charge. Veterans are encouraged to attend.
