AT-6 Flight Experiences available at the New York Air Show at Orange County Airport August 10-11!

AT-6 Flight Experiences available at the New York Air Show at Orange County Airport August 10-11!

It’s the last day to take a flight back in time with the American Airpower Museum’s AT-6 “Texan” Flight Experience at the New York Air Show Saturday August 10th, and Sunday August 11th! This is an opportunity to fly in the AT-6 “Texan” at the New York Air Show from 9am to 11am or  after the show’s performances 3:30pm-430pm. This is similar to our well known flight experience program at our museum but is slightly shorter in duration than our museum based program to work into the air show schedules.  You will brief with our experienced warbird pilot and then take off to enjoy a scenic 10-15 minute ride around the Orange County Airport and get chance to see what it like to fly a vintage warbird some of which you will be seeing in action during the New York Air Show.

The Aircraft you will be flying in is the North American Aviation AT-6 Texan an American single-engined advanced trainer aircraft used to train pilots of the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF), United States Air Force (USAF), United States Navy, Royal Air Force, Royal Canadian Air Force and other allied Air Forces during World War II and in the decades to follow.
The American Airpower Museum’s AT-6 you will be flying in is an actual AT-6D / SNJ 5 used by the USAAF and USN as their advanced pilot and gunnery trainer used during WWII.

You will meet our team on the airshow grounds at the AAM Check-in table near the static  display ramp where our ground team will check you in, and get you ready for your flight. You will escorted to the Air Show “Hot Ramp” to the aircraft where you will meet the pilot and receive a safety training brief on how to enter and exit the aircraft during normal as well as emergency operations. The pilot will also brief you on the flight and what you will see and experience. You will take off from, and return to Orange County Airport and once the flight is over will be welcome to take photos prior to departing.

We ask that you arrive at least 15 minutes in advance to your scheduled ride time to allow check-in and brief time. Should you have a ride time that takes you past the gate closure times for the air show this will not be an issue and we will coordinate for any people accompanying you to be able to stay and depart with you after flying.

The AT-6D is a two seat tandem configuration where the pilot sits in the front cockpit and the passenger sits in the rear cockpit. The ride is limited to one person per flight. You must not exceed 300lbs in weight, be at least 16 years of age, and be physically able to enter and exit the aircraft with minimal assistance to fly in this flight experience.

The cost for the AT-6 Flight experience at the New York Air Show is:

All flights must be booked online in advance or if booking at the air show as we will not be able to take cash or checks on site.

  • $325.00 per flight contribution to the American Airpower Museum at NYS Chartered 501c3 Not for Profit Aviation History Museum. Every contribution helps us “Keep ’em Flying” and preserve Historic Aircraft, and the legacy of American Aviation History.
  • Flights are subject to cancellation due to weather, maintenance, or pilots discretion and ride fees will be refunded not including Fareharbor point of sale processing fees.
  • The purchase of a flight experience does not include admission to the airshow or any other access to air show events. You must purchase admission to the airshow to access the Flight Experience.
